The Festival of Trees fundraiser for the Nevada State Library and Archives raised $2,246 to help bring future exhibits to the gallery in the archives.

All 90 of the items up for auction had bids, with the highest-priced item being a large white holiday tree covered in poinsettias.

"We had a lot of little stuff, but all of it went for more than $15," said Phyllis Sargent, assistant administrator of library services at the Nevada State Library and Archives.

Winning bidders can pick up their items through Friday at the administration office at the archives, 100 N. Stewart St. The items can be paid for using cash or check.

Rags catch fire at Cracker Box

Greasy rags in plastic tubs beneath a counter in the kitchen caused the Cracker Box restaurant at William and Stewart streets to fill with smoke Monday night.

Carson City firefighters removed the rags, which had caught fire on their own, and called the health department for an inspection.

Battalion Chief Vince Pirozzi said inspections are done any time there is smoke damage to an eating establishment.

Krolicki names staff

Lt. Gov.-elect Brian Krolicki has announced five staff appointments, including four from his current staff in the Nevada Treasurer's Office.

Treasurer Chief of Staff Kathy Besser will continue in that position at the lieutenant governor's office. Susan Moore, who directed the Millennium Scholarship program in the treasurer's office, will become policy advisor. Anthony Marcin, information technology director for the treasurer, will join Krolicki in the lieutenant governor's office as will Krolicki's executive assistant, Linda Frederick. McKay Daniels, of Ryan Erwin & Associates, was named a policy adviser.

Ending the dispute over whether Krolicki would move out of his current office to make way for Treasurer-elect Kate Marshall, Gov.-elect Jim Gibbons offered the lieutenant governor space in the newly-remodeled Capitol Annex.

Krolicki said with that office space, the lieutenant governor's office will have new phone numbers in Carson City. The main office number will be 684-7111, and the fax number 684-7110.

He said the location of the Las Vegas office and its contact numbers will remain the same.
