Churchill County

ATV club ready to roll Saturday

The 40 Mile Desert/Hot Springs Mountain run will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Trento and Annette avenues, eight miles east of Fallon in Churchill County.

The ride takes place in and around the 40 Mile Desert and Hot Springs Mountain.

Riders will be traveling at slow-to-moderate speeds with plenty of stops. Round-trip distance is nearly 35 miles. Participants should bring water and lunch.

Riders use channel five on FRS radio.

Library offers story time on Wednesdays

Children's Story Time is 11:30 a.m. each Wednesday at the Dayton Library, 321 Old Dayton Valley Road. The program is designed for preschool-age children. Call 246-6212.

Holiday toys for teens sought

The Dayton Toy Drive is looking for Christmas toys for big kids. Bridget Thompson of Healthy Community Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties said video games, skateboards, bicycles and MP3 players are being requested.

Dayton drop-off areas are the Community Center, the UPS Store, Pizza Factory, Greater Nevada Credit Union, Stor-All, Makin' Coffee, Legado Country Club, Coldwell Banker and Subway; and in Mound House at the General Store.

Anyone who donates $100 or more in toys or cash will be eligible for a raffle for two passes to Diamond Peak Ski Resort. Also, the business that collects the most toys will receive a free lunch for 15 from the Pizza Factory in Dayton.

To win the prizes, the toys must be dropped off at the Dayton Community Center.

A similar toy drive is going on in Silver Springs and similar items are needed for teens. To donate in Dayton, call Thompson at 246-7550; for Silver Springs, call Mary Boettcher at 843-0331 or Tammie Hitt at 577-5009.

Boy Scouts sell Christmas trees

Dayton Boy Scout Troop 100's Christmas tree lot is on the corner of Second Avenue and Highway 50.

The annual fundraiser features various types, sizes and shapes of fresh fir trees harvested in northwestern Nevada. Hours are 1-5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Mound House

Health and wellness fair planned

A free Health and Wellness Fair is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Bread of Life Christian Fellowship, 10042 Highway 50 E., in Mound House.

Events include a demonstration of the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District's Hazard House, information on proper installation of child safety seats and child identification services.

There will also be blood pressure checks, CPR demonstrations and home health tips.

The United Blood Services Bloodmobile will be on hand. To schedule a blood donation, call 230-3546.

Information will be available from the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and La Leche League.

Fernley

CPR class set for Wednesday

Family-to-Family Connections will hold a first-aid and CPR class 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Chapel Fernley, 875 Fremont St.

Preregistration is required, and there is a $20 fee for material. Participants should bring a snack and lunch. Call 835-6221.

Neighborhood kids get gifts

All of the children living in the tiny town of Silver City will receive Christmas gifts at a party at 6 p.m. Saturday in the firehouse.

Virginia City

Christmas on the Comstock continues

Virginia City will hold its annual Christmas on the Comstock celebration offering activities for the month of December.

Visitors can win up to $1,000 in the Virginia City Santa Buck Game, which will be drawn on Dec. 23.

Another game is the Christmas Tree Shopping Game, where participants pick up a cutout Christmas tree with numbers from participating stores and try to match the number at other stores for a free gift.

The annual Boar's Head Feast will be tonight at Piper's Opera House. Call 847-0433.

The Gingerbread Social will feature a gingerbread house contest at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Piper's Opera House.

On Sunday, the Gold Hill Theater Troupe will perform the play, "An Alf Doten Christmas" at the Gold Hill Hotel. Tickets: $28 includes dinner/$10 play only. Call 847-0111.

Hugh Gallagher Elementary School students will perform "A Kid on the Comstock," at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the middle school auditorium. Admission is free.

Folk artists' reception today

An artists reception featuring more than 60 items is 5-7 p.m. today at the Lyon County Courthouse Gallery, 27 South Main St., in Yerington.

The reception will feature more than 60 items created by 27 artists on display for the sixth annual Folk Arts Show. Call 775-463-4963
