The Nevada WIC program will be ringing in the new year with the grand openings of two new clinics, operated by Carson City Health and Human Services, and the Las Vegas Clark County Urban League, through grants from the Nevada State Health Division.

Both clinics are expected to open their doors in early January, providing more than 5,000 clients with access to the USDA Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.

Carson City Library to hold holiday celebration for kids

Carson City's Library Youth Department will be holding a holiday celebration 7 p.m. Tuesday in the youth section. There will be cocoa, carols and Christmas tales. Children are invited to wear pajamas for a cozy storytime. For information, call 887-2244 or visit www.carson-city.nv.us/library.

NARFE to meet Tuesday

NARFE Chapter 1329 will meet at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at Grandma Hattie's, 2811 S. Carson St. Cake and ice cream will be provided to celebrate the Christmas season.

Recently elected chapter officers will be sworn in to assume their 2007 duties. All retired and active federal employees are cordially invited to attend.

Dance lessons offered to seniors

Seniors are welcome to join other seniors at World Gym for dance lessons at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday.

Daughters of Norway plan Christmas celebration Thursday

The Daughters of Norway Queen Maud Lodge No. 42 will meet 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Family Church, corner of Highway 50 East at Saliman.

They will offer a smorgasbord and Santa's visit with the children, and will sing and dance around the Christmas tree.

An exchange of gifts valued at no more than $10 each will end the evening. Guests are welcome.

Women are invited to join the lodge that are of Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic heritage or who are married or have been married to someone of that heritage. For information, call 882-3729.

United Blood Services needs donations

The community blood supply is always low during the holiday season; however blood is needed most during the holidays. United Blood Services is encouraging the community to join them in their Season of Giving campaign.

An ornament representing each of their hospital patients has been placed on their Christmas tree. Each donor can choose an ornament to take home knowing that they have helped this patient. The goal is to have each ornament chosen by Christmas.

During December, there will be a drawing for an iPod Shuffle and an overnight stay at Harrah's, Reno. United Blood Services is open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Saturdays they are open from 8 a.m. -3 p.m. and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. the last Sunday of every month. Saturday morning donors receive continental breakfast and every other Wednesday is Pizza Night courtesy of Pizza Factory.
