Fernley teacher in court next month on drug charges

A Fernley sixth-grade teacher will appear in court in January to determine if there is enough evidence to try her on drug chargers.

Kymberly Tamburello, 43, a former special-education teacher at Fernley Intermediate School, is charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, maintaining a residence for the purpose of sales, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana and unlawful use of both marijuana and methamphetamine.

On Oct. 13, her home was searched by investigators after police received reports she and her husband, Charles Tamburello, 42, were dealing methamphetamine. During the search, officers allegedly seized 26.3 grams of methamphetamine and 186.2 grams of marijuana packaged for sale.

Charles Tamburello was arrested and has since pleaded guilty to a charge of trafficking methamphetamine. He will be sentenced Jan. 8 in district court in Yerington.

Lyon County Deputy District Attorney Brandi Jensen said the trafficking charge carries a mandatory prison term of one to six years.

In exchange for his plea, charges of maintaining a residence for the purpose of sales, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana and unlawful use of both marijuana and methamphetamine were dismissed.

Kymberly Tamburello was not arrested due to a medical condition but was given a summons to appear in court.

Her preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 9 in Fernley Justice Court.
