Delays on Koontz Lane should end after a new utilities office in South Carson City opens in early January.

The new offices of Paiute Pipeline, a wholly owned subsidiary of Southwest Gas, will house 30 workers in the technical services, administration and engineering groups, said Cynthia Messina, spokeswoman for Southwest Gas.

"We had smaller offices on Curry Street and Eagle Station Lane and we consolidated and built on the site where Southwest Gas is located in Carson City for efficiency reasons," she said Thursday.

The $2 million, 10,000-square-foot building at 349 Koontz Lane has been under construction for about five months. The contractor is Al Shankle Construction, of Minden.

Most drivers will be diverted around the Silver Sage Drive and Koontz Lane intersection from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday because of sewer work for the new building.

Southbound drivers on Silver Sage Drive will be diverted to Tuscarora Way and then to Baker Drive.

Northbound drivers will be diverted to Clearview Drive then to Center Drive, said Harvey Brotzman, engineer with city public works.

Eastbound traffic on Koontz Lane will be narrowed to one lane. Westbound traffic will be diverted to Baker Drive or Center Drive.
