Nevada Singles to hold end-of-year festivities


Nevada Singles will be holding a potluck, poker and bingo party at 5 p.m. Saturday. There will also be a New Year's Eve party at 8 p.m. Sunday. Snacks and beverages are needed. Those interested in attending either event should call 882-0504 for information and directions.




Hike scheduled Saturday


There will be a hike to trace part of the railroad grades in Carson River Canyon for the Carson City Senior Citizens Center Saturday. Weather and snow conditions will cancel the hike. Hikers do not need to be a member of the senior center, or even be a senior, to participate, but must be experienced and fit. Distance is roughly 10 miles, primarily along the Carson River, and partially off trail. Elevation gain is less than 500 feet. No dogs allowed. Sign up at least two days prior to the hike by calling 530-2935.




Adult day center celebrates one year


Share the Day Adult Day Center will be celebrating its one-year anniversary with an open house and refreshments from 3-5 p.m. Friday at its location in the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Museum cancels Teen New Year's Ball


The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada has canceled its planned Teen New Year's Ball due to lack of interest. Contact the museum at 884-2226.




Pioneer Family Dance to be held for New Year's


Pioneer Family Dance contra dance will hold its annual New Year's Eve Dance from 8 p.m.-midnight Sunday at the Brewery Arts Center Ballroom. Cost is $15 for adults, $12 in advance at www.nevadamusic.com. Children are $6. Call 883-9351.

Genoa Bar plans New Year's party


The Genoa Bar (Nevada's Oldest Thirst Parlor) will be having its annual "New Year's Eve Unplugged" party starting at 10 p.m. Sunday


The Genoa Jazz Club will playing music from Patsy Cline, Nora Jones, Maria Muldar and more. The lights go off with live music, oil lamps and candles glowing at the old saloon. A complimentary champagne toast will be at midnight. No cover charge. Call 782-3870.

RTC offers free rides home


In an effort to curb drinking and driving, RTC is offering free service on 17 of its most popular routes from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Sunday, New Year's Eve.


This service is only available within the Reno area.

Marcia Ball to ring in year


Grammy-nominated vocalist Marcia Ball will perform at 10 p.m. on New Year's Eve at the Crystal Bay Casino, 14 Highway 28.


For more than 30 New Year's, Ball has been delivering her signature brand of Texas blues, Louisiana R&B and Gulf Coast swamp pop to audiences all over the world.
