This New Year's Eve, while welcoming 2007, Carson City residents can become part of pop culture.

With a new member and new set list, the members of the Rick Hammond Blues Band wanted a unique way to kick off the new year - with a new album. The band will be recording their album live at the Rebar in Carson City beginning at 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

"It's kind of a new beginning for us, and we thought it would be a good idea for a new year and a new album," said harmonica player Stevie Dee.

The album will be the second for the Reno-based blues band, but the first featuring Rick Hammond's daughter Melanie, who joined the band about a year ago.

"I grew up listening to my dad play and I've always been a singer. I tried different kinds of music, but my voice is suited for the blues," Melanie said. "The blues are very emotional and passionate."

Dee said Melanie adds another level of sound and impact to the group's stage show, which he hopes to capture by recording live.

"She gives us more dynamics and excellent background vocals. Overall, she's just a wonderful singer and adds so much personality to our show," Dee said.

Rick Hammond, the band's namesake and one of its founding members, said they chose the Carson City venue because of their relationship with the fans and the owners.

"We like the Rebar, and they like us. It's a good little place to play, with a good sound and the audience gets involved," Hammond said.

There is no cover charge for the show, which hopes to attract a full house to enhance the background of the recording.

The Rebar is just one of a multitude of options to ring in 2007, including a gala party at Piper's Opera House, theme parties at casinos in Reno and Carson City and the controlled chaos of Tahoe. See the complete list below.
