The following program is being offered this weekend by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and the Carson Ranger District Office of the U.S. Forest Service:

Saturday: Beginning at 10:30 a.m., a guided, free, snowshoe hike at Tahoe Meadows, which is located along S.R. 431 near the top of Mt. Rose summit.

This will be a leisurely hike, open to all ages and skill levels, but is geared towards novice snowshoers.

The hike will be approximately 3 hours long and will include a quick lunch stop at a beautiful location overlooking the Tahoe Basin.

The hike will be led by two Forest Service representatives, and will include loads of interesting information about the natural and cultural resources of the area.

The hike will also include information about winter safety and backcountry etiquette.

Snowshoes or skis are required, and participants are encouraged to dress and prepare appropriately for being out in the snow.

Space is limited and reservations are required.

For hiking reservations, call either Jeff Rhoades or Katie Hansen at the Carson Ranger District Office at 884-8122.

For USFS information, call the Carson Ranger District Office at 882-2766.
