'Book Lovers' sale set for library


Friends of the Carson City Library will host a book sale from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Carson City Library Auditorium.


A preview will be available for members only each day from 9 - 10 a.m.


Applications for membership will be available at the sale.

Senior volunteers wanted for exercise-training program


Senior volunteers are wanted to help in a modest yet effective exercise program for seniors.


A brief training session will be provided to acquaint the volunteers with a resistance-training program and the methods used in safely conducting the program for seniors.


After training, volunteers are asked to help seniors 2-3 hours a week on a personal, scheduled basis. The exercise site is selected by the RSVP coordinator. Call 882-0449.


Carson Tahoe and Care Flight offer ski helmets for all ages


Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare and Care Flight have teamed up to provide local residents with ski helmets at cost for adults and children. Each helmet is specially fitted for its owner.


These helmets are available at Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center, 775 Fleischmann Way, and Minden Medical Center, 925 Ironwood Drive, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays

Historic Resources Commission meets today at center


The Carson City Historic Resources Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Topics include further discussion about the demolition application sought by the First Presbyterian Church and actions to consider demolition of a structure at 711 Washington St. and a sign at 112 N. Curry St. Also sought is an allowance for an attached garage with workshop and loft at 702 N. Minnesota St.

Formal weight-loss participants needed for free workshop


UNR's Psychology Department and the Center for Nutrition and Metabolic Disorders are seeking participants for an ongoing weight workshop, which take place at the University's Department of Psychology on Saturdays, once or twice per month from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. All materials are provided.


Anyone who has completed six months of a formal weight-loss program and is over 21 is eligible for participation. Call 784-1532.
