United Blood Services hosts Valentine's drive


Bring your sweetheart, family and friends to the United Blood Service this Valentine's Day from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. for a celebration of life. All donors in Reno and Carson City will have the opportunity to win prizes, enjoy free food and have fun while saving lives.

Babe Ruth League takes registrations


The Babe Ruth League of Carson City is taking registrations for ages 13-18. The next sign-up is scheduled from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Round Table Pizza on Highway 50.


The League is also seeking donations to add two batting cages to meet the needs of Carson City, and the State Tournament that they will be hosting this year.

Art marketing presentation at the Brewery Arts Center

The Feng Shui of Fashion workshop, designed to enhance the fashion experience with the use of traditional Feng Shui, will be held in Minden on Feb. 25 and March 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop fee is $225.

Bluegrass concert plays in Sparks


John Reischman and the Jaybirds, a Nevada bluegrass band, will be headlining the Nevada Bluegrass Project's winter concert, 7 p.m. Saturday at the Great Basin Brewing Co. in Sparks. Opening the show will be Reno's Irish Band, Whiskey Before Breakfast.

Boomtown hosting concealed weapon courses


Boomtown Hotel and Casino in Reno will be this year's location for the new Nevada Concealed Weapon certification courses. These courses offer valuable safety tips and certifications. The first classes will be Feb. 25 and 26.


Courses include a two-night Boomtown stay Friday and Saturday, two days of four-hour instruction and license application paperwork, for only $199 plus tax. Courses alone are just $149. You must be 21 years or older.

Scenic Nevada photo contest due by April 1


The fifth annual photo contest for high school students and adults to promote awareness of Nevada's scenic beauty is being held by Scenic Nevada. The deadline for this contest is April 1. There are two grand prizes of $150, and one first, second, and third place prize.
