A benefit Wednesday night raised $2,500 for two Carson City children allegedly starved and locked in a bathroom for years.

Nate Lance, owner of Mulligan's Food, Fun and Spirits on Highway 50 East, said business was brisk during Wednesday night's event in which Lance donated 100 percent of his restaurant's earnings from 6-8 p.m. to the children.

He said raffle tickets alone raised $420 and other money came from people calling in donations, including some the following day.

The grossly underweight children are recovering in Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

Their mother, grandmother and stepfather will appear in court Feb. 24 on charges of child abuse, child neglect and false imprisonment.

They are being held in Carson City Jail on $100,000 bail each.
