Don't get lazy when the going gets tough

"God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show the same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised."

- Hebrews 6:10-12 (NIV)

There is a laziness mentioned in the Scriptures that might be overlooked by many. The writer speaks of diligence that is maintained, one that will persevere to the end.

And how often is that actually seen today?

I am addressing the church, not necessarily those outside the church.

We, as believers in Jesus Christ, are supposed to be patient with one another. Yet when the going gets tough, all too often, the people scatter in haste to save their own skin ... or should I say "dignity." That word "lazy" in the passage actually means "slothful, dull or stupid."

The Lord speaks to us, saying, "Don't be slothful, lazy and stupid. Imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promise."

In other words, "Keep going, no matter how tough it may seem. Don't give up because it's getting tough. You were made for this day and for this battle."

I'll admit; sticking it out till the end is not the most alluring proposition I've heard.

And often those of us who continue to stand are in the minority. But I have a saying: "If only God is standing with me, even then we are a majority."

Your church is facing difficult situations each day. The pastor is leading his family as he leads Jesus' church.

But if you stand with him as he stands in the Truth; if you stand with the church as she is the bride of Christ, you'll be in that "inheritance" crowd.

Don't let offense or fear or pride deter you. Don't get lazy. Don't miss the blessing. You started a good race, to give up now would be stupid. "God is not unjust; He will not forget..."
