Contra dance with St. Patrick's theme
The Ceili Contra Dance group in Carson City is holding their "Pioneer Family Dance" from 7-10 p.m. Saturday at the BAC Ballroom.
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, participants are encouraged to wear green.
Knowledge of contra dance is not necessary, but those who want a preliminary lesson can come at 6:45 p.m. and ask.
Cost is $8 for adults and children with an attending adult are free. Kids without adults are $3.

Bingo night proceeds for slain police dog Jon-Jon
The Gardnerville council of the Knights of Columbus are dedicating Friday's Bingo Night in memory of police dog Jon-Jon, of the Douglas County Sheriff's K9 Unit, who died while on duty Feb. 3 in an accidental car fire.
The net proceeds, or a minimum of $1,000, from this event will be donated to the Canine Unit toward a new police dog.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and play starts at 7 p.m. Players purchase a $20 game pack that includes a three-card warm-up, 10 games and one progressive blackout game. Food and drinks will be available for purchase starting at 6 p.m. Call 265-6132 or 265-5350.
Garden Club starts up for spring at senior center
The Garden Club will be starting up for the spring season at 10 a.m. March 27 in the Ceramic Room of the Douglas County Senior Center.
The Garden Club meets the fourth Monday of every month. There are three master gardeners involved. Call 265-2312.
Historical Society accepts nominations for women
Nominations are being accepted by the Douglas County Historical Society for women who have made a significant historical contribution to the quality of life in Douglas County. The woman nominated, living or deceased, must live or have lived in Douglas County.
The deadline for submitting nominations for Douglas County women has been changed to today.
Nominating packets may be picked up at the Museum and Cultural Center at 1477 Highway 395 north in Gardnerville or by calling 782-2010.

Old St. Paul's Church in Virginia City fetes Lent
The public is invited to celebrate the Lenten season with Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Virginia City. There will be a free pancake supper at 6 p.m. on Shrove Tuesday An Ash Wednesday service will be at 6 p.m. it will be followed by a soup supper. The public is invited to partake of soup suppers on Wednesdays through Lent. Call 246-0878.
