Literacy Volunteers rescheduling

Carson City Literacy Volunteers is rescheduling and shortening their training for new tutors. The new dates are:

• Oct. 13, 14; 6-9 p.m.

• Oct. 16; 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Training will be in the Nevada State Library and Archives on Stewart Street.

Tutoring is one hour, twice a week at the Archives Building. There are programs for English speakers wanting to improve their reading skills, including dyslexics and ESL learners. Call 885-1010 to register or for more information.

Family/community contra dance planned

Organizers invite the public to join them for their last contra dance, Oct. 15. Harvest is the theme and the dance is from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St.

The caller will be Darla Bayer, and the band will be Train Wreck. Admission is $10 adults or $8 members, $5 youth or $4 youth members, and $1 children.

Only six people showed up for the September contra dance, and three of them were from out of town. Those who came had some fun doing circle mixers and very short-line contra dances, but the October dance will probably be the last monthly dance in Carson City.

Participants are invited to come and celebrate, or mourn, as the case may be. We will consider two dances a year - New Year's Eve and July at the Americana Festival.

For more information, call 830-7939.

The soup supper starts at 6 p.m. and costs $5. Bunco starts at 7 p.m. and also costs $5.
