Two Carson City businesses were cited during an alcohol compliance check conducted by the Carson City Sheriff's Department on Feb. 13.

Deputy Jarrod Adams said of the 25 businesses visited by the 16-year-old decoy volunteer, Bully's Sports Bar, 3530 N. Carson St., and Fairl's Saloon, 3481 Highway 50 East, served the high school student a drink. Each citation carries a $632 fine.

The Sheriff's Department is working in conjunction with the "Stand Tall, Don't Fall: Students United Against Underage Drinking" program. The effort is paid for by a grant from the state's juvenile justice commission.

He said another grant will aid in the enforcement of traffic in the capital.

Federal money from the Office of Traffic Safety will pay for overtime so more deputies can patrol the streets looking for speeders between Sunday and March 14.

College Parkway and Roop Street will be among others with an increased patrol presence during the nearly three-week operation, Adams said.
