Assemblyman Lynn Hettrick hedges on political plans

Assemblyman Lynn Hettrick, R-Gardnerville, said it's highly unlikely he will renew his bid for office this year.

"I don't think I'm going to run, but it depends on who files in May," Hettrick said. "I've done it for 14 years and things are changing. Unfortunately, people are not looking to do the right thing. They want to play political games instead."

Hettrick's plans to continue as assemblyman depend on who would want to take over his position.

"There are people who are more than capable, but I'd run if I didn't think there was somebody who'd represent the wishes or political attitudes of our district," he said. "If a very liberal Democrat and no Republicans filed, I might file because that's not what our district is about.

"I haven't taken any campaign funds since last session. I'm burned out. It's not fun. I'm going through the motions when I want to be there to get things done," he said.

Hettrick said there are plenty of things to do if he weren't assemblyman.

"I'd spend more time on my business interests," he said. "I'd like to take the grandkids out more. Time has been limited when we're in session in the spring.

"Sometimes I wonder why I do this, what's the point?" Hettrick said. "Hopefully, on the upside, if we start by directly opening people's eyes and work toward problems, that's a step in the right direction."
