Gardnerville's Nalder first in barrels round in Vegas event

Gardnerville's Brianna Nalder won Saturday's go-round in barrel racing to lead an impressive effort by the Carson-Douglas Rodeo Club in a state event over the weekend in Las Vegas.

Nalder won the barrel racing in 18.113 seconds. Carson's Pia Wendell took sixth in 18.732.

Also on Saturday, Gardnerville's Alyce Kugler was third in pole bending at 21.577. Wendell was ninth in 23.872. Wendell and Kugler also tied for sixth in girls cutting with a 61. In Sunday's go-round, Nalder took eighth in barrel racing in 18.57 and Wendell was fifth (65) and Kugler was 10th (63) in cutting.
