A memorial for Roy E. Bennett, 61, a Carson City resident for more than 50 years, will be at 2 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Bennett died Feb. 25, 2006, at Washoe Medical Center from a stroke. He was born March 9, 1944, in Sherman, Texas, to Henry F. and Ruby King Bennett.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Oregon.

He was a 15-year survivor of leukemia.

Mr. Bennett is a 1963 graduate of Sherman High School. He was a brick mason in the construction industry for more than 30 years.

He was an avid whitewater rafter in the summer and an expert skier in the winter.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his father.

Among his survivors are his son, Adam Bennett of Carson City; mother of Sherman; brother Kenneth Bennett of Cartwright, Okla.; one nephew; and two great-nephews.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Cremation was under the direction of Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
