RENO (Appeal staff report) - Information is being sought in the theft Tuesday of a quad and trailer on display here as the grand prize in a raffle to benefit Northern Nevada children's charities.
The 2006 Arctic Cat quad and trailer, valued at $12,000, was stolen from the parking lot at Mark, Fore and Strike Sporting Goods on Kietzke Lane in Reno where it had been on display for several weeks. It may have been seen Wednesday in Carson City.
The raffle is part of the 12th Annual Model Dairy Fishing Derby scheduled for March 11-12. The Children's Miracle Network, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Batten Disease Support and Research Association are the 2006 beneficiaries of raffle-ticket sales and funds from the event itself.
Anyone with information to help return the quad and trailer is urged to contact the Reno police at 334-2550 or 689-2960. A cash reward of $2,000 is being offered for information leading to the return of the stolen merchandise.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children suffering from various life threatening illnesses and the cost of the average individual wish can exceed $6,000.
The Washoe Medical Center Children's Miracle Network supports pediatric services at the hospital.
The Batten Disease Support and Research Association serves as the main support group for families and friends of children suffering from neuronal ceriod and lipofuscinosis, a rare genetic disorder that causes its young victims to lose brain cells, leading to blindness, deterioration and loss of mobility and the disease is always fatal.
