Woman pays restitution, sentence deferred

MINDEN - A Carson City woman who admitted embezzling more than $8,000 from her 83-year-old employer received a deferred sentencing Wednesday when she showed up in court with full restitution.

East Fork Justice Jim EnEarl deferred sentencing for six months for Karen Sclafani, 40, on the condition she violate no laws.

She admitted cashing checks on the victim's account totaling $8,176.

She arrived for her sentencing with a cashier's check for the entire amount.

The theft took place between December 2004 and June 2005 while Sclafani was employed as the victim's bookkeeper.
