Arts scholarship deadline upcoming
Scholarship applications for graduating high school seniors are available on the Nevada Arts Advocates Web site at www.nvartsadvocates.org or though statewide high school counselors.
Four scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded in dance, music, theater and visual arts. Deadline for the applications is Feb. 14.
Share what you know by becoming a mentor
To be a mentor- to listen and to offer friendship, guidance, and encouragement to a young person - contact the Mentor Center of Western Nevada, a program of the Boys & Girls Club at Western Nevada Community College at 445-3346. There are many children waiting to "share what you know."

Relay For Life kickoff at Carson High School
The Relay for Life volunteer committee is throwing a kickoff party to celebrate the onset of relay season.
From 7-9 p.m. Feb. 2, old and new relay participants are encouraged to come to the Carson High School upstairs cafeteria for refreshments, entertainment and to sign up a team for this year's Relay for Life.
The Carson City Relay for Life event is 2 p.m.-10 a.m. on July 14 and 15.

Training session for literacy volunteers
The Carson City Literacy Volunteer Organization will conduct a training session for people interested in tutoring adults in reading and writing English.
The classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Feb. 25 and March 4.
You must attend all the classes to be certified.
Registration is $25.
