A funeral service for Philip Newell Martin, 80, a 46-year resident of Carson City, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Martin died Jan. 12, 2006. He was born July 2, 1925, in Massachusetts, to Edna G. and Blynn Nelson Martin Sr.

He married Yhvona F. Martin on June 22, 1947, in Borger, Texas.

He was in business with his parents for many years before moving to Nevada, where he worked for the Nevada Department of Taxation as a real estate appraiser. He went into business for himself and became an independent real property appraiser. At the time of his death, he was developing a gold, silver and lead mining property in Churchill County.

He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He enjoyed prospecting, golfing and stamp collecting.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; sons and daughters-in-law Christopher and Karma Martin, and Philip II and Betsy Martin, all of Reno; brothers Blynn Martin Jr. of Temecula, Calif., and Richard Vernon of San Jose, Calif., and three grandchildren.
