Priorities for improvement funds discussed

The city's Parks and Recreation Commission decided the most necessary major allocation of Capital Improvement Funds will be new audio equipment in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center.

The sound system now being used by the board of supervisors and the city's array of boards, committees and commissions, is more than a decade old and a hand-me-down from the state, said Roger Moellendorf, the city's parks and recreation director.

Cost for a replacement system is estimated to be $76,000.

Five other major expenditures were deemed necessary during the upcoming year long budget cycle, which begins July 1:

-- Bridges at Mills Park ($117,500 for five)

-- Portable restroom enclosure at Sonoma Park ($19,800)

-- Concrete paths at Ross Gold Park ($46,400)

-- Electronic reader board at the Carson City Community Center ($181,500)

-- Creation of a west parking lot at community center ($919,903)

The commissioners also identified the most important minor expenditures that CIP should fund during this upcoming fiscal year:

-- Replace of the gymnasium scoreboard controllers and cables ($5,000)

-- Inventory well at Governor's Field for irrigation water ($6,500)

-- Replace park signs ($14,000)

-- Repair concrete paths and walkways ($13,000)

-- Tennis court repairs ($15,000)

-- Replace lighting on Linear Park path ($14,000)

-- Playground safety resurfacing ($8,000)
