Rippee, McIntosh and Baxter honored

Douglas High's Luke Rippee and Andy McIntosh and Galena's Annie Baxter were named to the academic all-Western Athletic Conference teams for the fall semester.

To be eligible, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average and participated in 50 percent of the team's contests.

Rippee and McIntosh are both special teams players for the University of Nevada football team. Rippee has a 3.65 G.P.A. in pre-business administration and McIntosh has a 3.55 G.P.A. Both are sophomores.

Baxter, a senior who plays for the Wolf Pack women's soccer team, is studying for a master's in education and has a 3.92 G.P.A.

Knights of Columbus free throw shoot set

The Knights of Columbus will hold its free throw championship on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Carson Middle School. Boys and girls are eligible.

10-11-year-olds will compete from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 12-14-year-olds will compete from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Registration will be held the day of the event. The contest is free. For more information, call Gregg Swift, 882-6545.
