Earl to direct task force for technological crime

James D. Earl has been appointed executive director to the advisory board for the Nevada Task Force for Technological Crime.

Attorney General George Chanos said Earl has extensive experience in the telecommunications industry, including as telecommunications attorney for the U.S. State Department and within the Federal Communications Commission.

"We are very fortunate to have him working on behalf of Nevada," he said.

The board has identified Internet-related crimes against children and identity theft as its two priorities. It provides oversight for two multi-agency task forces in Northern and Southern Nevada which are composed of federal, state and local law enforcement experts in computer-related crime.

Earl said the Legislature created the board to help improve cooperative efforts in detecting, investigating and prosecuting those types of criminal activity.

"The basic framework has been established," he said. "Now we must deal with staffing and training issues."
