Douglas teams roll to victories

The Douglas boys' basketball team got well in a big way Tuesday night, thumping Wooster 90-68 in Reno.

The win ended a four-game skid for the Tigers as four players finished the night in double-figure scoring totals.

Things got a little rough midway through the fourth quarter as a Wooster player connected a punch to the back of Mike Gransbery's head after Gransbery had been fouled at midcourt. Both benches nearly cleared, but the coaches and administrators from both schools quickly controlled the situation.

Gransbery was tossed from the game along with the Wooster player, but coach Rob Streeter said the incident is on tape and he will forward that on to the NIAA for an appeal. The NIAA penalty for getting thrown out of a game is an additional one-game suspension.

Emotions had been heating up throughout the night as Wooster played a sometimes excessively aggressive game, sending Douglas to the line for a remarkable 55 shots.

The total ranks third in state history, according to the NIAA record book, for most free throws attempted in a game.

Douglas was able to make the Colts pay, however, hitting 36 of its 55 shots. The 36 shots made ties for second most in a game in state history.

Keith Olson led the way for the Tigers, scoring 21 points, while Nate Whalin had 16, David Laird had 14 and Jeff Nady had 11.

Joe Nady scored eight and Jordan Hadlock added seven in the win.

Douglas improved to 8-12 overall and 3-4 in league play.

Douglas had little trouble disposing of the Colts, tallying the win in Reno Tuesday night.

Monica Knight had nine points to lead the way for the Tigers while Sarah Hartley, Allie Hughes and Jessica Waggoner each scored eight.

Nicole Didero added six points in the win as Douglas improved to 4-3 in league play and 8-13 overall.
