Inez D. Smith Elk, 86, a three-year Carson City resident, died Jan. 23, 2006, in Carson City. No services are planned.

She was born Aug. 8, 1919, in Valley City, N.D., to Henry and Elsie Doede.

She married Frank D. Elk on April, 29, 1938.

She was an administrative assistant in the insurance field.

Mrs. Elk was a member of the Redwood Empire Rose Society, Flower Arrangers Guild and Southwest Neighborhood Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965.

Among her survivors are daughters and sons-in-law Reta and Rod Cole of Grass Valley, Calif., and Donna and Larry Mendenhall of Ukiah, Calif.; daughter Lela J. Elk of Carson City; sister Bernice Lund of North Dakota; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Carol Doede of Carson City; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to plant a rosebush in her memory.

A private burial will be at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, Calif.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
