A memorial service for Marino "Monte" William Bianchi, 85, a 56-year resident of Carson City, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville.
A reception will follow at 3 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center.
Mr. Bianchi died Jan. 23, 2006, at home. He was born March 1, 1920, near the East Walker River south of Mason Valley, to Benedetto and Giuseppa Bianchi.
He married Eileen Christianson on Aug. 24, 1957, in Northwood, Iowa.
Before coming to Carson City he lived in Smith Valley.
Mr. Bianchi was a 1937 graduate of Smith Valley High School and a graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1950 where he earned a bachelor of science in mathematics.
He worked as a civil engineer and a hydrologist for the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Reclamation from 1950-1980.
Mr. Bianchi served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941-1946.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the boards of the Proscenium Players, the Nevada Federal Credit Union and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mr. Bianchi also coached Little League baseball and volunteered for the Nevada Literacy Coalition and Books for the Blind.
Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; children Brent and Kathy Hoy-Bianchi of Grass Valley, Calif., and Maria Bianchi of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren Dylan and Chloe Hoy-Bianchi of Grass Valley and Harrison Riddle of Las Vegas; and four generations of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bianchi has willed his body to the University of Nevada, Reno Medical School for research.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer society, Heifer International or the Trinity Lutheran Church Baby Grand Piano Fund.
Mountain View Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
