The Carson High Naval Junior ROTC rifle teams under head coach Wayne Baker won the overall title at their own invitational on Saturday at CHS.

Twelve teams from six schools competed in the event. Carson and Reed, two of the top teams in the nation, finished first and second. About 50 shooters competed in the event.

Carson's two teams finished with 2,053 points to finish ahead of Reed, which had 1,998 points. Reed's A team edged Carson's A team for the top score in the event, 1,048-1,045. Carson's B team was third at 1,008.

"When you break 1,000 that's pretty good shooting," Carson ROTC instructor Skip Cannady said. " That's four people averaging more than 250."

Carson's top two shooters were Cody Stokes, who had a 269 out of 300 and Sarah Stadler, who had a 266.
