Carson City investigators are looking for a man who forced his way into a Menlo Drive apartment Tuesday morning and assaulted the woman inside.

The 21-year-old victim was alone in her apartment after her husband and roommate left for work about 6:30 a.m. when she heard a noise in the front room, according to Detective Brian Humphrey.

When the woman opened her bedroom door, a man, carrying an undisclosed weapon, forced his way into her room and grabbed her.

Humphrey said the attacker stated in Spanish he was going to kill the woman and at some point tried to find something to tie her up with.

The woman was able to fight him off, and the man fled.

"She put up a pretty good fight," Humphrey said.

He said the woman called 911 and told police the man ran east on Menlo Drive.

It's believed the man entered through the unlocked front door.

The suspect is described as short, weighing about 120 pounds and wearing a dark beanie cap, hooded sweatshirt and a dark, black or blue nylon jacket that ends just below the waistline. He has black hair, brown eyes and a thin mustache.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Carson City Sheriff's Department at 887-2020, ext. 1400.
