A funeral service for Dr. Henry Stewart, 83, a Carson City resident since 1955, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 405 E. College Parkway. Burial will follow at Walton's Carson Garden's Cemetery.

Dr. Stewart died July 1, 2006 in Carson City. He was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Manila, Philippine Islands.

He married Lois Hitchens in 1948.

He graduated from Pershing County High School in 1941, and the University of Nevada in 1948. He also studied at the George Washington University Medical School for two years and completed his medical studies at the College of Medical Evangelists, now Loma Linda University.

Before moving to Carson City, Dr. Stewart lived in Martinez, Calif., while serving his residency at Contra Costa County Hospital.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was active in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Among his survivors are his wife of 58 years, Lois Stewart; sons Richard Stewart of Fallon and John Stewart of Reno; daughter, Sylvia Stewart of Riverside, Calif.; and two grandsons.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
