Art critique to be at Brewery Arts Center on Tuesday

4-H club holds garage sale today for Relay for Life


The newly formed Carson City 4-H Musketeers, a community service club, will be holding a garage sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at 1137 Clearview Drive.


Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Call 883-3258 for information.




Local author to read at railroad museum


Families and the public are invited to attend a free program by author Ellen Hopkins as she reads from her book "Tarnished Legacy," a nonfiction story for children about Virginia City's Comstock Lode, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Call 687-6953 for information.




Master Gardener class is Wednesday


A mandatory orientation meeting for those who may be interested in becoming Master Gardeners will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cooperative Extension office, 2621 Northgate Lane Suite 12.


The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension's fall Master Gardener training program will run Sept. 5 through Nov. 1 classes are 6:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For information or to reserve a seat, call 887-2252.

Christian singer to play Sunday service at High Sierra


Christian singer and songwriter Ted Shultz will be at High Sierra Fellowship Sunday for the 9:30 a.m. service. Shultz heads up "Journey Home Ministries," and teaches from the Bible as he brings his unique style of original music from his 11-string guitar.


Shultz travels as a guest speaker, teaching expository Bible studies, as well as leading men's retreats, and conducting worship seminars. He and his wife, Sarah, live outside Nevada City, Calif.

Desert Brushes to meet Wednesday


The Carson Valley Desert Brushes will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Lane Firehouse, 1450 Stephanie Way, in Minden. Painters of all levels and those who would like to learn to paint are invited.

Bowers Mansion history hike Sunday


Washoe County park rangers will lead a guided nature and history hike with a view of Washoe Valley at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bowers Mansion.
