RENO - As expected, the Reno Silver Sox dominated the selections for the North squad for the July 18th Golden Baseball League All-Star game in Chico.

Reno put eight players, tops in the league, on the 22-man squad. The North squad will be comprised of players from Reno, Chico and Yuma. The South squad is comprised of players from Long Beach, Fullerton and San Diego.

Catcher-first baseman Marcus Jensen (.341, 33 RBIs), third baseman Edgar Varela (.357, 48 RBI), shortstop Evan Sobel (.309, 11 RBI) and first baseman Doug Gredvig (.282, 26 RBI) were the position players picked.

Four Reno pitchers - starters Chris Marini (4-2, 4.91) and Ben Thurmond (4-1, 4.00) plus relievers Nate Sevier (4-0, 0.60) and Scott Schneider (1-2, 9 saves, 3.06 ERA) - were selected.

Reno manager Les Lancaster will direct the North squad.

NO RICKEY SIGHTINGS - YET

Dwight Dortsch, Silver Sox general manager, said there is no word on Rickey Henderson, who finished his contractual obligations with the New York Mets on July 5.

Dortsch said that Henderson would be in San Diego today to receive his championship ring which he earned with San Diego last year.

SCARY MOMENT

Things got hairy in the eighth when San Diego manager Terry Kennedy, upset at the Silver Sox announcer, came into the press box and stood behind the announcer.

Jack Kuestemeyer, the Silver Sox official scorer, told Kennedy that he needed to leave and didn't belong in the press box. He stood up and tried to direct Kennedy toward the exit.

Kennedy pushed Kuestemeyer before other personnel stepped in between the pair. Kennedy yelled that he was going to press charges against Kuestemeyer. Kennedy felt that the announcer wasn't showing his players any respect.

Moments later, Reno manager Les Lancaster stormed up to the press box and yelled at the public address announcer, saying "he wanted things cleaned up."

SOX ACQUIRE MCTAMNEY

The Silver Sox traded the rights of right fielder Hector Zamora to the Fullerton Flyers for right-handed pitcher Mike McTamney (0-0, 7.32). Zamora had expressed an interest in playing in Southern California where he grew up. McTamney will join the team in Long Beach today.

SEVIER ON DL

Nate Sevier, 4-0 and 0.60 ERA, has been placed on the 7-day disabled list retroactive to July 3 with arm problems.

BIG CROWD FOR JOSE

Dortsch announced that 1,400 tickets have been sold for the July 21 game against the Long Beach Armada and Jose Canseco.
