Mrs. Hentschell has opened an ice cream stand on King Street to the rear of Avery's. She will furnish visitors with ice cream, lemonade; cake, etc., etc. all day today and this evening. Mrs. Hentschell has the reputation of making the best ice cream in the city.


100 YEARS AGO


Simmer Ranch is sold - Key to the future water supply of greater Carson City is solved by purchase of big piece of water bearing land. The Simmers ranch of 160 acres of water bearing land, reservoir site, and stone with which to construct a reservoir, has been sold to P.G. Lewis. As the city grows and attains a population of at least 10,000, some adequate water supply will be absolutely necessary. This the city could not have it with the present facilities, and it was necessary therefore to seek further.


70 YEARS AGO


According to persons who have investigated Willie Chow's accident at Cave Rock several days ago, the young Chinese drove his car at speed directly through the narrow gap between the south end of the wooden guard rail of the old road and the north end of the stone wall. The car thus made a long "dive" through space and onto the water-covered rock ledge 94 feet below.


50 YEARS AGO


Soil and plant sampling has been completed on eight Carson Valley farms as part of an investigation being made in Nevada with the assistance of Soil Conservation Service technicians and local sponsorship of the Carson Valley soil conservation district.


20 YEARS AGO


Summer music classes for teens and adults are scheduled at the Brewery Arts Center in "Music Appreciation" and "How to Read Music." Both classes are geared to students with no previous musical knowledge. "How to Read Music" is a class in basic music fundamentals. Students will learn how to read notes in both treble and bass clefs, simple chords and rhythms.


10 YEARS AGO


Marvin O. Carey Jr., 69, a Carson City resident for the past 18 years, died Saturday at his residence. Mr. Carey retired as a chief petty officer after serving in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. He was involved in the Korean War and the Bay of Pigs conflict. After his retirement from the Navy, he was manager of The Furniture Barn.
