Carson City

Old mint coin press will stamp again

Visitors can see how our country's gold and silver coins were made at one of the nation's U.S. Mints during a live demonstration of Coin Press No. 1 at the Nevada State Museum on July 28. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and is free to members of the museum and children age 17 and under. Coin Press No. 1 is operated from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Nevada State Museum is at 600 N. Carson St. and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Call 687-4810 or visit www.nevadaculture.org.

Reno

Silver Legacy celebrating birthday

The Silver Legacy Casino is celebrating its 11th birthday at 8 p.m. Friday with a free outdoor concert and fireworks show, featuring the music of the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra. The party takes place in front of the casino at Fourth and Virginia Streets.

The orchestra will perform "Fun and Games," a selection of music from television and movies with a special emphasis on modern technology and digital arts. The concert's highlight will be a slot machine concerto, "Symphonic Slots."

Virginia Street will be closed from Fourth Street to Fifth Street starting at 8 a.m. Friday and will re-open approximately 10 p.m.

Kids invited to draw pictures of space

Kids can learn to make an amazing picture of outer space as the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center hosts an "Astronomical Art Lesson" with Ann O'Lear on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon. For kids 5 years and older, the morning class will cover everything they need to know to create stellar art. Cost of the class is $5.

The planetarium is on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, north of Lawlor Events Center on Virginia and 16th streets.

New adult show at Harrah's Reno

Greg Thompson's rockin' new revue, "Rock my Ride" opens Friday in Sammy's Showroom at Harrah's Reno. "Fast cars, hot women and the men who love them" is the theme of this adult show.

A combination of rock 'n' roll, hip-hop and the hottest country hits keep the show moving at full speed. Thompson says a comedic detour is in store from comedian Jerry Halliday.

Family to present LenzFest concert

The Lenz family will stage a LenzFest Sunday as part of the Incline Chamber Music Summer Concert Series. The performance will take place at the D. W. Reynolds Center for Community Non-Profits (Parasol Building), 948 Incline Way at 3 pm. The concert is free.

Members of the family participating are Andrea Lenz, oboe and piano, John Lenz, cello and horn, his son Johnny, cello, his daughter Ruth Lenz, violin, her husband Andrew Williams, trombone, Paul Lenz, trumpet, Peter Lenz, cello, his wife, Mary Miller, flute, and their daughter, Julie Lenz, harp.

G. Love and Special Sauce at MontBleu

Alternative hip-hop trio G. Love and Special Sauce perform at the MontBleu Theatre inside MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa on Aug. 9 at 9 p.m.

Cruises continuing to sail on Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe Cruises offers three daily cruises to Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay island. A brunch cruise on the Paradise leaves the Ski Run Marina Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. through Sept. 10. Tickets are $49 per person.

Dinners are served on daily cruises on the Tahoe Queen, a sternwheeler departing from Ski Run Marina.

"Show Boat in Concert" a musical review performed by the Nevada Civic Light Opera, sails every Friday at 5 p.m. on the M.S. Dixie II sternwheeler through Sept. 15. Guests Sail from the Zephyr Cove Marina. Tickets are $59. Call (800) 23-TAHOE.
