Carson 14s win easily in opener

The Hutchens boys - Tyler and Brooks - combined to go 7-for-7 as the Carson 14-year-old Babe Ruth team rolled to a 15-1 win over North Valleys in the state tournament qualifier on Saturday.

Carson will play the South Tahoe-Fallon winner at 4 p.m. today at South Tahoe Middle School.

With a win, Carson will automatically advance to next week's state tournament in Elko. The top two teams from the double elimination event will advance to the state tournament.

Tyler went 3-for-4 and Brooks went 4-for-4. Justin Allbritten went the distance for the win, sacttering seven hits and striking out seven in the game that was called after five innings due to the mercy rule. Carson jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.

Craig Newsome went 2-for-2 with a triple, Brett Allen tripled and Luke Carter and Anthony Torkeo each added a hit for Carson.

DAMONTE 6, CARDINALS 2

The Carson Cardinals were eliminated from the Joe DiMaggio State Tournament with the loss to the Damonte Rebels. David Eller gave Carson a solid effort on the mound, allowing three runs over five innings. Damonte scored three runs in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.

Carson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Matt Rutledge and Markus Adams singled. Rutledge eventually scored on Kyle Mandoki's fielder's choice.

In the seventh, Nick Smallman walked and scored on Drew Good's double. Adams had two hits for Carson.
