This is what family fun is all about: A nice light dinner, taking your children on a safe bike ride around beautiful Mills Park, then heading back to play some games.

Make note for your family of Carson City Parks and Recreation's "Family Fun Night," when you and the children can have a great time, with the weather being so beautiful.

'Family Fun Night'

Summertime Western Day at the Ranch is July 29.

I am a big promoter of mentoring and giving back to children by example. So if you have ever kicked around the idea of becoming a mentor for a child, try spending the day with the Mentor Center of Western Nevada.

Come out to the Verdi Trails West Ranch, a full equestrian center 10 minutes west of Reno. Be a mentor for the day and see if you would like to help make a difference in a child's life. I will be there with my daughter

Saddle on up for this fun event.

'Hit the Trails and Be A Mentor'

Where: Verdi Trails West Ranch, just north of Interstate 80 West

When: 9 a.m.Ð5 p.m. July 29

The Carson High School Basketball Camp is for boys and girls entering fourth through ninth grades.

This camp is a great instructional program put on by the Carson High basketball coaches. Bruce Barnes and Carlos Mendeguia taught both of my boys, and I can tell you this camp is fun and teaches your children the fundamentals.

It is two days of hands-on instruction, lectures and demonstrations of basketball fundamentals and daily scrimmages.

It starts today, but there are some spaces left.

Basketball Camp

Where: Carson High School Gymnasium, 1111 N. Saliman Road

When: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. today and Tuesday

Cost: $100

Contact: Bruce Barnes at 885-0978
