A family operated manufacturer has a little more room to make its wire rope and cable railings. The company relocated from Carson City to a $1.2 million building in Lyon County.

The Cable Connection gained 8,800 square feet when it moved July 1 from its Highway 50 East location about two miles east to a new 16,000-square-foot building at 52 Heppner Drive in Mound House.

"We outgrew the old facility, and we're expanding because it's a rapidly growing business," said Ray Kechely, company vice president.

His son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jeannine Kechely, own the company that employs about 20 people in sales, administration and production. About 90 percent of its business is outside the state.

The expansion will create six new jobs with average wages of about $14.90 per hour. The Cable Connection will invest $400,000 in equipment.

"It will enable us to bring more of the manufacturing of our component parts in-house," he said. "We had to subcontract parts out before."

The business moved from Southern California in the 1980s because Carson City offered a "better business environment and lifestyle," Kechely said.

The Cable Connection has manufactured wire rope fittings and assemblies in Carson City since 1992. It also has a line of architectural products called cable railings.

The business was awarded $18,450 in tax abatements from the Nevada Commission on Economic Development at its Wednesday meeting.

"Tax abatement was one of several significant factors in our decision to move our business to Lyon County," said Michael Kechely, president of The Cable Connection. "Other significant factors included the favorable business climate and the availability of land at a reasonable cost in Lyon County."

The Nevada Commission on Economic Development also awarded tax and business incentives to a new Lyon County manufacturer.

Sierra Stainless will manufacture stainless steel tanks that are used for wine, dairy, food, fuel and pharmaceuticals. It will create 24 new jobs with an average wage $16.91. The company will be investing more than $6.6 million. It received about $300,000 of tax abatement and $24,000 worth of training dollars.
