Free Children's Story Times at Bowers Mansion Regional Park continue through Aug. 17. Join Ranger Rochelle for a classic children's story and art project in the shade of old trees at 11:45 a.m. every Thursday.

The park will also set up a Discovery Table 1-3 p.m. every Saturday through Labor Day under the trees just north of the swimming pool. Kids can see, touch, and ask questions about a variety of plants, animals and other natural objects found in Northern Nevada.

Remember to take the children for a swim afterwards in the pool there.

It's getting hot, and Hot August Nights is just around the corner. If you car buffs want to get in the mood, head on down to the Silver Dollar Car Classic this weekend with every year and model of vehicle.

The night before, you can put on those poodle skirts and Levi's and dance the night away.

Friday night is the street dance, and Saturday is the show and shine. The poker run and awards will be at Mills Park on Sunday.

After you get your engines running at the Silver Dollar Car Classic, check out all the fun events throughout Reno and Sparks for Hot August Nights.

That's right, Sparks also has events, as well as Reno. Sometimes it gets too crowded in Reno, so cruise on over.

Drive by the Peppermill and Atlantis casinos, too, because each has its own events, from cruises, competitions, live music, poker runs, auctions, great food and lots more.

Get your engines ready.
