Dr. Vincent D'Ascoli's orthodontic bus is heading to Mexico.

The 32-foot Southwind bus is transporting medical supplies to villagers, and will be used for dental checkups.

After using the bus for 15 years to visit Carson City children and teens at school for orthodontic checkups, D'Ascoli donated it to retired dentist Dr. John Entner, who will use it in Mazatlan, Mexico. He estimates the bus is worth $12,000.

Entner, who lives part-time at Lake Tahoe, does charity work in Mexican villages.

"We're happy to see it go to good use," D'Ascoli said Tuesday.

The bus is transporting dental equipment and wheelchairs. D'Ascoli replaced it with a new 34-foot Itasca bus about two years ago.
