Investigators are looking for a man they believe was involved in a melee at Wal-Mart in Carson City on Monday night in which one of four men attacked with bats retaliated with gunfire. No one was injured.
According to Sgt. Bob White, the four men were leaving Wal-Mart with beer and soda just after 8 p.m. when they were confronted by a group of men with bats.
"Five or six guys jump out of a truck with baseball bats and ambush them," White said.
The victims began to run through the parking lot when one of the victims pulled out a gun and fired at least three rounds at the assailants.
The assailants fled in a blue or green older-model Chevy pickup. The victims jumped fences and fled on foot through private yards on Ridgefield Drive.
White said the entire incident was caught on store surveillance at the register and outside the store.
He said one of the victims is believed to be Emmanuel Gallegos-Arellano, 21, of Carson City.
"We suspect he is the kid buying the beer. If you know Emmanuel Gallegos, we need to talk to him," White said.
Officers recovered three shell casings for a 9 mm handgun from the northwest parking lot.
White said the fight took place in front of a half dozen shoppers and it is believed to be gang related.
"The people in the truck belonged to one gang and the people in the parking lot belonged to a rival gang," he said.
