Batter up! It's baseball season.

I can remember watching my sons Kyle and Nick play, and now I watch my nephew Conner. He is in Farm League and does a great job out there at Governors Field.

Carson City Little League's annual fundraising Father's Day Pancake Breakfast is June 18. Even though my "boys" are 19 and 17, we still purchase tickets to help out the league. It keeps money in the system for future players - including Darrell Rasner, who last week stepped up on the pitching mound for the Yankees. Jake Rasner, Matt Williams, Charley Kerfeld and Donovan Osborne also started their careers at Governors Field.

Thanks to Dick Campagni, who donates a Toyota truck each year as the grand prize in the drawing.

WOW! is all I can say about Lisa Lee and the amazing women who work with Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

The stats are outstanding, and those successes make Lisa keep plugging away. I stop by the shelter once in a while to drop off an item or two, but the women who are there daily get my greatest appreciation for the support, counseling and services they provide women and children in the aftermath of domestic violence.

The Taste of Downtown fundraiser is a favorite of mine because it involves the entire community coming together and helping. You can purchase a ticket, or call and volunteer.

Terri said the telephone rang off the hook the day after my first mention of the event.

This event is in July, but I want to pitch it out there now. If you have ever considered being a mentor, or tossed around the idea of helping a child - here you go.

Enjoy a great day of horseback riding as part of The Mentor Center of Western Nevada's Summertime Western Day at the Ranch.

I plan on taking the girl I mentor and my daughter.

Be a mentor for the day to see if you would like to help a local child. You could be the difference in his or her life. Be that person.
