A memorial service for Leland Lee Clayton Sr., 51, a 23-year Jacksonville, Fla., resident, will 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Cemetery in Fernley, with full military honors.
Mr. Clayton died June 8, 2006, in Jacksonville of cardiac arrest. He was born Sept. 28, 1954, in Daytona Beach, Fla., to Alonzo J. Clayton and Juanita Fithen.
He worked at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville as a helicopter instructor and aviation machinist. He was a versatile mechanic working on the Navy turboprop P-3s, the F-4 jets and the SH-60bF/H helicopters.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy for 23 years before retiring. He also served in the Reno Air Guard during high school. He was stationed at seven stateside bases and on board four ships and aircraft during the first Gulf War.
Among his survivors are his wife Joy Clayton of Jacksonville; sons Leland Clayton Jr., and Daniel Clayton, both of Jacksonville; mother of Carson City; father of Reno; and sister Melba Clayton of Carson City.
Hardage-Giddins Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
