Four injured during Fallon gunfight; two arrested

Two Fallon men accused of shooting four people Wednesday night in a shootout in Fallon were jailed Thursday.

Randy Lee Ibold, 23, and Anthony Joseph Drake, 23, were arrested and booked into the Churchill County Jail.

Churchill County Sheriff Richard Ingram said deputies were called to 355 Regan Place at 10:50 p.m. on a report of shots fired. Initial reports indicated that several people in two vehicles descended on the house and fired an unknown number of shots toward the front of the residence. One occupant of the residence also fired shots, Ingram said.

After investigating the crime all night and all day Thursday, Ingram said he is confident Ibold and Drake each fired a weapon from the Dodge Neon they were in.

A man and two women in a Dodge pickup sped into the driveway at the house, struck the rear of a parked Ford pickup and sped away. Ingram said there is no evidence so far that those people were armed but they will be interviewed again as part of the ongoing investigation.

Four people who live at the residence - three men and a woman - are not being identified by the sheriff's office. They each suffered minor injuries to the face, chest back and head, Ingram said.

"(The wounds) were numerous but some of the injuries could have been from splintering material," said Ingram.

Investigators later recovered from the desert a .410 single-shot shotgun and a .17 caliber bolt-action rifle Ibold and Drake are suspected of using.

"We're keeping the specific location confidential right now. They were on the surface several miles out of town," Ingram said.

The man who lives in the house on Regan Place reportedly used a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun. That weapon has also been confiscated by police.

The sheriff said there are conflicting stories about who first fired a weapon during the confrontation - the suspects or occupant of the home. He said additional investigative work is necessary to sort out what exactly happened.

Investigators believe an altercation about two hours before the alleged shooting led to the gunfight. Late Thursday afternoon, Ingram said information was sketchy on the first dispute but it happened in an alley within the city limits.

"That's a whole other incident. Information about that event came to us at the tail end of today," he said Thursday.

Drake is accused of four counts of battery with a deadly weapon and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure. His bail was set at $30,000 cash.

Ibold faces two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, four counts of battery with a deadly weapon and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of $37,000 cash.

The sheriff said Drake and Ibold had been drinking before the alleged crime occurred. Authorities were in the process of getting a seizure warrant early Thursday evening to obtain urine samples from the suspects to test for drugs.

Ingram said police reports will be submitted to the Churchill County District Attorney, who will decide if additional charges will be filed.
