Two Washoe Valley teens were killed Friday afternoon in an accident off East Lake Boulevard.

According to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, at about 3 p.m. a 17-year-old boy and his 15-year-old female passenger were speeding westbound on an off road motorcycle on Esmeralda Drive, an eastbound one-way street.

The dirt bike collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 44-year-old Washoe Valley man who turned east onto Esmeralda from White Pine Lane.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike along with the girl, who was wearing a helmet.

Witnesses who saw the accident called 911 and attempted to aid the juveniles. They were both pronounced dead at the scene, said Deputy Michelle Youngs. The driver of the Jeep was not injured.

The victims names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
