The Cory Canyon fire, which began about 2:30 p.m., is at the north end of Washoe Valley off Highway 395 burning in bitterbrush, sagebrush, grass and mixed conifer, said Helen Frazier, spokeswoman for Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch.
She said the agencies responding are the Nevada Division of Forestry, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Reno Fire. About 20 acres are involved.
Two structures are threatened in the St. James subdivision. Reno Fire is handling structure protection.
Additional units have been ordered and are on the way. There is no estimate on containment or control.
This fire is not effecting traffic flow on Highway 395 in Washoe Valley at this time, according to Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol.
