Carson City

United Blood Services needs O-type blood

There is an urgent need for all O- positive and -negative blood types. High local usage has left the local blood supply of red cells low.

Red blood cells, plasma, cryo and platelets are all needed, of all types. People with O-negative blood are called "universal donors" because anyone can take their blood type without a bad reaction.

However, all blood types are accepted.

Computer classes offered at Carson senior center

Reservations are being taken for the July computer classes being held at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive. "Introduction to Computers" and Microsoft Word are being offered. For information and to register, call 883-0703, ext. 222.

Downtown Design Committee to meet

Downtown Design Review Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Conference Room at the Planning and Community Development Department, 2621 Northgate Lane.

On the agenda is potential approval to allow replacement of windows, frames, a door and some screening at 301 N. Carson St.

Free Yoga for Seniors class offered

There will be a Yoga for Seniors class held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. every Wednesday at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville.

This class is free for anyone 60 years of age or older. For information, call 783-6455.

Douglas County

4-H holds youth horse show

Local youth can practice their horsemanship at the 4-H Sierra Riders Open Horse Show, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 922 Dump Road in Gardnerville. Entry fees are $4 per class if registering in advance and $6 the day of the show.

Advanced registration closes three days prior to the show.

Workshops held for Dayton State Park

A series of workshops will be held to discuss future management of the Dayton State Park.

A public workshop will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Dayton Community Center, 170 Pike St.

Washoe County

Ranger leads hike in Washoe Valley

There will be a ranger-led hike through Washoe Valley's Wilson Commons from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday, starting at the Wilson Commons Park in Washoe Valley, 11Ú2 miles south of Bowers Mansion on old Highway 395. Turn left on William Brent Road and left again on Susan Lee, and should bring sturdy shoes, water, and a light layer of extra clothing for cooler evenings. Call 849-1825.
