A national medical real estate developer will build a two-story office building on the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center campus and lease 30 percent of it to the Carson City health-care system.

Carson Tahoe's physical therapy practice and some administrative offices will occupy about 12,000 square feet of the 40,000-square-foot medical office building, said an officer working on the project.

Hammes Co., which has a regional office in Orange, Calif., will construct the office building for $7 million to $8 million. This is the company's first project in Nevada.

"It's an extraordinarily important project to Carson Tahoe's overall master plan for providing health care to the community," said Mike Keller, senior project executive for Hammes Co. "The new office space on the campus is the ideal proximity to the hospital. For hospital-affiliated physicians, it is a much better service line for clients and patients."

Physicians can refer patients to the hospital for additional medical care. The medical office building will be about 100 feet away from the 80-acre Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center campus in North Carson City off Medical Parkway. Hammes is leasing the land from Carson Tahoe.

Dr. James Pincock, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, will also lease an office in the building, Keller said.

The building will be completed in spring 2007 and then opened to occupants, said Mark Beauchamp, of Shaheen Beauchamp Builders, the general contractor. Work began May 15 on the four-acre project.

"It's going to be another beautiful addition to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center campus," Beauchamp said. "We're proud to be a part of the project."
