Two fires were burning in Mound House on Wednesday - the Linehan fire burning just off Highway 50 East and the Flat fire at American Flat in northwest Lyon County.

Crews worked Wednesday to prevent the fire from climbing up McClellan Peak in Lyon County, keeping the fire south of East Lake Road and west of Goni Road in the Carson Range.

Residents of Goni and Linehan roads were allowed back into the area Wednesday morning. Linehan Road properties were evacuated Monday night and a voluntary evacuation notice was put out for Goni Road on Tuesday. An emergency evacuation center was established at Dayton High School.

Statistics

Estimated acreage involved: 4,500

Responding units: 10 fire engines, four water tenders and about 200 personnel were assigned to the fire.

Structures: Currently no structures are being threatened.

Assisting agencies: Nevada Division of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management, Carson City Fire Department, Lyon County Fire Department, Fallon/Churchill, Carson City Sheriff's Department, Lyon County Sheriff's Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Contain/control: No estimate of containment or control is being given until it is available for all fires in the Sierra-Tahoe Complex.

Remarks: Short but heavy rains in the area laid down the flames and allowed crews to establish a solid fire line in many areas. However, the concern is reigniting hot spots when the brush and cheatgrass dries out.

Top priority: Patrol roads and monitor fire for hot spots.
