Washoe Tribe Head Start Program takes applications

The Washoe Tribe Head Start is accepting applications for its Stewart Head Start Program in Carson City and the Dresslerville Head Start Program in Gardnerville for the 2006-2007 school year.

Enrollment is open to eligible children 3-5 years, including children with disabilities and special needs. Head Start is a free developmental preschool program. Bus service may be provided.

Sexual-assault victim advocates needed

The Sexual Assault Support Services program at the Crisis Call Center needs volunteer victim advocates for its 24-hour advocacy services to support victims of sexual assault. Training will begin July 27. Bilingual advocates are especially needed, but anyone over the age of 18 will be considered. Call 784-8085.

Dogs learn to avoid rattlesnakes

Dog owners can sign up for a training session to teach rattlesnake avoidance to dogs aged 6 months or older July 8, 9, and 22. Experienced dog handlers will train dogs individually and live snakes will be used, with a licensed snake handler providing safety. 'Pops in the Park' with Sierra Philharmonic

The Sierra Philharmonic League will be holding its 23rd annual Pops in the Park Sunday at the Orchard House in Genoa. Bring a picnic lunch or purchase one from the Genoa Country Store.
